The County Public Service Board of Nyamira which was previously under immense criticism from a section of the public for alleged skewed recruitment has received a rare backing from the public.
This comes after the release of the official list of successful candidates for various health docket posts who are supposed to report to work by January 2016.
Speaking at Manga ward on Monday, residents led by political activist Samuel Ongeri said the board had shown its impartiality and regional balance and called for the subsequent replication of standards set by the recently concluded exercise.
“Sometimes we have to give credit where it is deserves. I have personally gone through the list and i can ascertain that the CPSB did its job without possible coercion from political elites. That is the kind of professionalism that we expect of them and hopefully it will be carried in subsequent recruitments,” he said.
They hailed the CPSB for recruiting only deserving candidates, in line with the constitutional and academic requirements.
“We have also seen people from outside the county getting jobs. That is the way to go. Regional and gender balance are key constitutional requirement and I have no doubt that it was applied in that exercise. All wards were also given equal opportunities,” added Phyllis Ombati.
They however cautioned area politicians against interfering with the independence of the recruitment board, vowing that they will be ready to point out whenever that happens.
"We know politicians are always keen to impose workers on us by coercing the board. That will be unacceptable and as residents, we are not ready to see independence of certain boards interfered with by greedy politicians,” added Ongeri.
