As much the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) is being undertaken by the national government, the Nakuru county government will not relent in its effort of supporting families still living in the camps, governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.
Speaking after he presided over a ceremony that saw IDPs at the Mumoi camp in Solai ward Rongai sub county receive foodstuffs and other amenities donated by the Lions Club Nakuru Branch in collaboration with the Kinuthia Foundation and the Nakuru county government. Mbugua noted that it was his wish to have an IDP free county where everybody will be free to engage in revenue generating activities that will boost the county’s economic stability.
He assured them of full support under his administration saying that he will ensure that they are compensated by the national government as earlier promised so that they start their lives afresh.
“This is a gesture of how much we love and always remember you. This is not the end, we are still going to come back with more assistance,” he assured.
The governor has been a notable figure in the negotiations involving representatives from the national government and the IDPs bearing in mind that a larger section of the IDPs who decried being left out in the compensation plan are from camps within Nakuru county.
“It touched me when I heard that IDPs living here were left out during the first phase of the compensation plan, that’s why I consulted the relevant officials and I am sure something will be done in due time. Once you get compensation, please settle quickly so as to regain normalcy in your lives,” he advised.
The governor was accompanied by the county secretary Joseph Motari, Health Cabinet Executive Dr. Mungai Kabii, his Roads and Planning counterpart Joel Maina, area MCA Paul Chebor among other leaders.
