Governor Jack Ranguma has announced plans to construct shades for bodaboda riders in Kisumu County.

Mr Ranguma said the shades will be built in all the 34 bases for the riders to provide them with shelter during the rainy.

He said the shades will be fitted with lights and kiosks to be managed by the riders themselves.

“I have instructed my minister for enterprises to work on that budget to come up with shades for every base in the city. I have a vision for this sector and it has started,” he said.

The governor said the bodaboda industry is employing thousands of young people and promised to help in the regulation of the sector.

Speaking in Kisumu to bodaboda riders on Wednesday, Ranguma said the lighting project that has been ongoing in Kisumu has introduced a 24 hour economy in the lakeside city.

He urged the bodaboda riders to embrace doing business round the clock as a way of boosting the economy of the city.

Ranguma said security has been addressed and the fear that was creeping among the residents is no longer there.

“Kisumu is now well lit, everywhere you walk is bright. Police patrols have also been intensified,” he said.

He called on the riders to cooperate with police during the night to able to deal with criminals terrorising locals.
