The county government of Nyamira is set to embark on the recruitment of 400 more ECDE teachers to solve the under-staffing crisis following construction of more childhood centers across the county.

The county had recruited 400 ECDE teachers in November 2015; a figure which the county leadership says is not enough to sustain increasing number of pupils enrolling in schools in the county.

County Governor John Nyagarama, who was attending a funeral ceremony in Borabu on Monday said the recruitment will kick off this February, with qualified candidates expected to report to their respect institutions by mid-February 2016.

“The county government has invested heavily in early childhood education because we want to see more children getting proper foundation. There have been cases of under-staffing even after employing 400 by the end of last year and I have resolved to add a similar number by mid-February to curb the menace these institutions are currently undergoing,” said Nyagarama.

The Nyamira county boss urged the CPSB to ensure all constitutional provisions ranging from regional balance and gender equity are followed to the latter to avoid dissatisfaction from county residents.

“I do not want to hear issues of regional and gender imbalance, so it’s important that the CPSB ensures that the constitution is followed. My government respects the law but the applicants must meet certain qualifications regardless of the region they come from,” he said.

He also promised to ensure at least 200 technical training teachers are employed by mid- 2016 to combat understaffing in village polys across the county.
