Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has reiterated his commitment to providing a conducive working environment for local traders.

Speaking on Thursday in Murindat Ward, Gilgil sub county while on a developments projects tour where he commissioned the recently refurbished Karuga Market, the governor urged youth and women to take up the opportunities being provided to improve on their economic well-being.

“After getting the Youth and Women Enterprise and Uwezo Funds, take up the initiative of seeking for space at such facilities to help you become self-reliant,” he said.

The governor also called on local leaders to initiate projects that will improve the well-being of their local residents saying that some leaders had failed him by settling for projects targeted to a select section of the society.

“For instance, why should one concentrate on building a road towards his home while one leading to a school or hospital remains in a very poor state?” he asked.

He also revealed that his government was in the process of not only renovating but also setting up new modernised markets in all the seven sub counties as he strives towards ensuring Nakuru becomes an economic hub in the region.

The new market, one of the largest in Gilgil has been fitted with new roofs, stands, drainage and sewage systems, lights and is estimated to hold more than 200 traders.
