Speaking in Kamwangi Town on Monday, Gatundu North Maendeleo ya Wanawake chair lady, Hellen Murugi, said that women were being left behind in terms of development and time had come for them to rise and get involved in county development issues.

She lamented that elected women leaders in the county had done less in support of women programmes.

''We have many women programmes in Kiambu County but our women leaders have done less to support their development. I am urging them to come together, work to grow the county,'' she urged.

The chair noted that women are important members of the society and their interests must be taken to heart by all leaders.

''I also call on women to be pro-active and seek representation in all development programmes being undertaken at the county level,'' she said.

Murugi further urged women to seek leadership positions in the county government noting that leadership was not meant for men alone.

''Women have the potential of making good leaders and again, the time has come for the country to have an elected female president,'' she noted.

She urged Kabogos’ government to initiate and implement laws that will support women’s empowerment programmes.
