A Nakuru court on Tuesday ordered for a pre-sentence report for a woman facing child neglect charges.

Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo ordered for the report and remanded the accused, Jane Wambui, at Nakuru GK Prison.

Wambui was accused of child neglect after leaving her one year and four months old son and went missing on December 31, 2015 at Punda Mali area in Nakuru County.

According to the prosecution, the accused left the baby who was later taken by a Good Samaritan, Roseline Adhiambo, and stayed with him until January 6, this year when she reported the matter at Bondeni police station and was told to stay with the baby and return with it the following day.

On January 8, Wambui went to Bondeni police station to report about her boy but the children's officer ordered for her arrested saying she should be charged of child neglect.

Wambui in her mitigation, told the court that she was working for the lady with her baby and it reached a time that she refused to give it her back to her.

She said she never wanted to quarrel with her and instead reported the matter to the police only to find Adhaimbo had already report the matter.

The case will be mentioned on January 20 for the pre-sentence report.
