Kisii Governor James Ongwae has urged Commission for University Education (CUE) to rescind its recent decision to closure down more than 10 Kisii University campuses for not meeting the mandatory set standards to operate.

The governor said if the directive was going to be implemented fully, thousands of students in the affected satellite campuses will be seriously inconvenienced as some of them were about to complete their studies while others have paid huge sums of money.

Ongwae made the passionate appeal on Tuesday on his official twitter handle after a series of demonstration of students of Kisii University across the affected areas.

The governor, who assured the students of his moral support, said there was need for the commission to give the campuses ample time to put in place the requisite physical and learning facilities for the sake of the students.

“I assure you Kisii University will not be closed, the university needs time to correct a few areas be compliant,” he added.

He accused the commission of being insensitive to the plight of the students to be affected by the order, saying that there was need for both parties to dialogue before such a major decision was reached.

Last week the CUE ordered for the closure of 10 out of 13 campuses of Kisii University.
