Deputy president, William Ruto, has once again been challenged to caution politicians surrounding him from persistently commenting on the case he is facing at ICC over crimes against humanity.
Ruto and his co-accused, former radio journalist, Joshua Arap Sang, are waiting for a verdict of ‘no case to answer’ motion which the duo had failed earlier on in January. However, on Monday, aspiring South Mugirango MP, Sylvanus Osoro, urged the DP to tread carefully on the matter and cautioned him against ‘careless’ talk on the case.
''The DP’s case at the ICC is at a critical stage. He should let the judges handle the case properly because it’s on trial to show that he respects the rule of law,'' said Osoro.
According to Osoro, it’s wrong for an individual or people to discuss issues that are still in court saying that it’s contrary to the rule of law.
''I hold the view that Kenyan politicians desist from commenting on the case because it’s on trial. The DP should only allow his legal team to handle the matter otherwise much talk on the case outside the court is perilous,'' he added.
He also faulted the move by the government to launch a withdrawal motion from ICC saying it would set a bad precedence in matters justice.
“It’s unfair for politicians to push for the withdrawal of the country from the Rome statute. However, as much as it’s difficult, we should work with the court because it’s the only place where victims of crimes against humanity can get justice,'' he added.
