A section of Thika town taxi operators now want the Kiambu government to digitise parking fee collection which they say is more effective.

Thika Town Taxi Association members said digitising parking fees collection would go a long way in ensuring efficiency, minimise time wastage and do away with paper work.

Chairman Chris Maina said the county government has already automated various payments and it was high time it also went digital on the parking fee collection.

"Digitizing these payments will be of much benefit to us as one can even pay before leaving home via the phone. We do not have to wait for parking attendants to come or even line up at the parking kiosks to pay. Nairobi already has e-jiji pay up and running. We should emulate them," Maina said on Friday in Thika town.

Maina noted that cases of clamping down vehicles for not paying parking fee will also be unheard of as one will be paying before parking.

The chairman asserted that the county government will also be able to increase its much needed revenue as digitising the payments will seal all the loopholes through which some money is lost.
