The National Council For Persons With Disabilities in Gatundu North branch has embarked on registering persons living with disabilities in Gituamba. The exercise according to the organisation regional coordinator Patriciah Waweru will run between October 11th and December 15th this year.
Waweru who was speaking in Gituamba Township on Wednesday said that the council expects all the persons living with disabilities to come out and register as expected. He said that the officers carrying out the registration will move to the sub-locations where the exercise will be conducted.
"Awareness and capacity building will go hand in hand with the exercise in order to educate the physically challenged about their rights as stipulated in the new constitution," she said.
"After the assessment, the educational requirements and other needs for persons living with disabilities will be established," she added.
Waweru further said that the registration will cover the number of groups of persons living with physical disabilities to assist the council in planning for the economic empowerment of the disabled.
"This exercise is very important since it will offer guidance to the government while establishing the needs assessment initiative for disabled persons," she added.
