Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has called on politicians to stop divisive politics ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Speaking at a fundraiser in Kisii on Tuesday, Maangi said leaders should embrace tolerance to avoid polarising the country along ethnic lines.

He added that leaders from all regions should ensure all communities and families work together toward achieving a common goal of peace.

Maangi said leaders have been elected so that they can work and ensure that communities live together.

“We, especially from Kisii County should be a good example so that other leaders can embrace change,” he said.

He also called on elected leaders to ensure they deliver the promises they gave out during their campaign and stop politicising development agendas.

“Development politics should run the country and when leaders are called upon to help they should since they were elected and they pledged to work for the public.
