In lower primary, we were taught to keep ourselves clean so that we can keep germs away. Germs according to my primary school teacher, Betty Nato, were small or tiny things that could not be seen by naked eye.

Cleaning ourselves meant that these germs cannot get into our bodies. There are some people who clearly do not believe that germs exist. So my question is do germs really exist?

From my observation, I have seen men who stand for a short call somewhere along the road. They then come from the area and shake hands with their friends. They proceed to buy roasted mutura and eat it without washing their hands. Do these men know there are germs? And if these germs exist, why can’t these people be admitted into hospitals for eating when their hands are dirty?

Have you seen ladies who are driving while eating snacks? Are they not aware that the steering wheel has a bunch of germs they cannot see? If they are then why hasn't there been a case of a woman having been admitted for eating with dirty hands?

You are in a hotel somewhere and a fly lands on your food, why can’t you leave the food because it has been contaminated? These are the kind of questions that linger in my mind. I get confused because I do not understand how germs exist yet there are rarely such cases reported on the news!
