The director of Institute of Gender and Development Studies at Kisii University, Dr Callen Nyamwange, wants Kisii County to establish a centre to accommodate survivors of gender-based violence.

Speaking on Wednesday at the county Sports and Culture Hall, Dr Nyamwange emphasised the need for the county to end gender-based violence through establishing a centre for victims.

"Gender based violence is real and we must unite to end it. I urge the county government through the office of the first lady to come up with a centre for gender violence survivors in case there are victims," said Nyamwange.

She spoke during a funtion to mark 16-day activism campaign to end violence against women, which was launched by Kisii county first lady Elizabeth Ongwae.

Dr Nyamwange added that Kisii University through the institute of Gender and Development Studies has policies that govern issues of gender violence both in the university and the community.

The policies give a legal process of prosecuting suspects of gender-based violence.
