The cancer awareness campaign that was launched in 2015 is on track, the African Cancer Foundation Chief Executive Officer Dorothy Nyong'o has said.

Ms Nyong'o said the Foundation was began by Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang Nyong'o after undergoing prostate cancer treatment.

The CEO said the Foundation aims at reaching out to cancer patients from across the country and see how they can be assisted in seeking treatment from speacialised hospitals across the world.

Speaking to the press at Imperial Hotel on Thursday, Nyong'o said they had carried out awareness campaigns across the country.

"We launched the awareness campaigns in Kisumu in 2014, from here we have moved to Nakuru, Nairobi, Kericho, Eldoret, Mombasa, Kwale, Baringo, Machakos, Kiambu, Kakamega, Busia, Nyeri, Kitui among other major towns.

"Our major role is to create cancer awareness among the residents and encourage them to go for cancer screening after which we single out those diagnosed with cancer and assist them get specialised treatment abroad."

She said most residents take too long to go for cancer testing.

"Above all, let us all eat a balanced diet consisting of healthy foods without too much spices."

She said the Foundation would launch a follow-up campaign in Kisumu beginning March.
