Deputy President William Ruto has called upon governors and their deputies to set aside their differences and focus on developments of their counties.
“It is neither politically acceptable nor admissible that a Deputy Governor should forge a parallel political program separate or independent of the Governor's. It is such pointless turf wars that will derail devolution,” Ruto said.
Speaking in Naivasha during a forum for deputy governors, the DP pointed out that devolution has come a long way and the national government is fostering harmonious and consultative intergovernmental relations.
He added that governors and their deputies were elected on the same ticket and they have the obligation to support each other.
He said: “I need not remind you that you and your governors were elected on the same ticket. So you either swim together or sink together.”
The DP emphasized that being loyal and supporting one’s boss or superior was not a sign of weakness saying it was one of the qualities of good leadership.
“If you are not ready to be led then you are not material to head. As Deputy President myself, I support my President and it’s not a sign of weakness,” he added.
“You cannot succeed your boss by bringing him down. If you undermine your boss the person behind you will also undermine you” Ruto said.
