Kaani sub locaton assistant chief Benard Muasya said adherence to traffic rules will reduce accidents.

He was speaking on Saturday at Kaani market during a public baraza.

Mr Muasya spoke after an accident in the area left one person dead along the Machakos-Kitui road on Friday.

The accident occurred after a vehicles veered off the road and rolled, knocking a pedestrian.

Two other people sustained injuries during the accident.

"Am calling on drivers to be watchful as Kenyans celebrate," he said.

"We cannot afford to continue losing lives because of carelessness."

He said it was unfortunate the accident occurred at a time Kenyans were celebrating.
