A motorist alleged to be drunk lost control, veered off the road and rammed into a motorcycle shed opposite Resma Plaza on Sunday evening.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver, a lady, lost control as she tried to negotiate a roundabout but instead of maintaining her lane, she swerved off, ramming into the shed.
“She was too drunk to drive and even as events unfolded, she seemed not aware of what was happening as she could not talk,” offered Benjamin Chege, a bodaboda.
Although nobody was injured in the mishap, the lady survived the wrath of the operators who demanded that she pays for the damages before being allowed to drive off.
“Dealing with a drunkard is hard because she kept on smiling as if nothing had transpired something that angered all of us,” Chege added.
It took the intervention of police from the Central Police station to restore order after they frisked the lady into an awaiting police vehicle and locked up.
Central Deputy OCPD Janet Wasige confirmed the incident and further said that she will be arraigned in court on Monday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
