Two suspects charged with stealing poultry before a Nakuru court have denied the charges.
George Njuguna and Boniface Wachira are accused of jointly stealing the 19 birds whose value stood at Sh 4,500 from their neighbour Nancy Nyambura on November 23 at Greenview estate in Nakuru.
Testifying before senior principal magistrate Liz Gicheha, Nyambura stated that on the fateful day she had left the birds enclosed in their coop as always when she went to meet her customers in Nakuru town but when she came back she found the coop open and 19 chicken gone with only 36 left.
She added that she reported the matter at Subukia police station after which officers launched a search and the two accused persons whom she said were her neighbours.
She, however, told the court that not a single chicken was found in the custody of the two and insisted that it was like they had been sold elsewhere or they had eaten the entire loot.
“We didn't get any chicken in their houses. Maybe they sold them to someone else or they ate the whole of them," she stated.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on a cash bond of Sh20,000 or cash bail of Sh10,000 with a surety of similar amount. The case will proceed on February 2, 2016.
