Hundreds of children from Risa Orphanage Center received early Christmas presents and food as several youths from Nyamira County chose to share with them ahead of the big-day.

The event which was organised a by section of youths saw the young leaders calling for the community to help the less privileged unconditionally with leaders challenged to invest more in such centers.

Chief organiser Mr Beavon Magare Wednesday said most children from different children homes were struggling to complete their education due to little support they get from the community.

“Raising children is an obligation of the community and not just a section of people. As a community, we have to stand with these young ones because they are part of us. But most importantly, we ought to chip in and support their education,” he said.

Magare challenged the county government and various elected leaders to come up with a kitty that could see the children getting their education to the highest level.

“What we should know is that those hosting them may not be able to do everything. We have a duty to help them to give these children a good opportunity to determine their future. I am suggesting that the county government and other elected leaders at the local level to come up with the kitty that could specifically help them pursue their education to the highest level,” he added.

Among the items contributed to the children’s home were food stuffs, clothing, bedding and shoes among others.
