It seems the member of county assembly's job has become so lucrative that the educated young men and women in Nakuru County are salivating for it.
A huge number of youth have declared their interests to vie for the MCA position in various wards across the county.
According to political analyst and Mount Kenya University don, Prof Humphrey Kwengu, the ward representative position is more lucrative even more than the Senator’s position and that is why most young men and women are eyeing it.
Speaking Tuesday Prof Kwengu said county assemblies have more money under their control, and the MCAs are enjoying a lot of allowances apart from the big salaries.
“The county assemblies have their own budget allocation and this means the MCAs control a lot of money. This has influenced many young educated people to go for the position,” he said.
“They also enjoy huge sitting and travelling allowances and also control the Ward Development Fund. These makes them more powerful even than the Senators,” he added.
The lecturer noted that the youth have the energy needed to run and control county assemblies and execute the oversight role over county governments effectively.
“Young people have the energy and they will likely run over the older generation in seeking to take over and control the county assemblies and that is good for the nation,” he said.
