Residents of Kisumu have been urged to been on the look out as the number of unregistered colleges is on the rise.
Kisumu County Director of Education Sylvester Mulambe said that such colleges operate in basements of major buildings.
Mulambe who was speaking to this writer said Kisumu residents should always ask if the colleges are registered and courses offered are recognised by the various boards.
"Before enrolling for a course, always go to the ministry of education officials to see if the college has been registered. It is advisable because the colleges hold fake certificates which are meant to dupe students," said Mulambe.
He said many people waste money going to college and when they go out to the job market they are rejected because the courses undertaken are not recognised by the relevant authorities.
He urged everybody to get a list of registered institutions before any enrollment.
"We also urge the public to always report cases where we have unregistered colleges, because some are so hidden and coming across them might be a challenge to us," added Mulambe Mulambe who was speaking to this writer in Kisumu on Sunday in his office.
He added that such colleges usually mushroom at such a time when KCSE results are about to be released.
