Education cabinet secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has appointed Prof Rose Mwonya as the new vice chancellor of Egerton University with effect from January 13, 2016.

In a memo circulated to both staff and students from the university, Prof Kaimenyi called on the university community to support her in her new role and took the earlier chance to commend her for the appointment.

"May I take this opportunity to congratulate Prof Mwonya and request the university community to support her in her new role," read part of the memo.

Mwonya, who until her new appointment, was the deputy vice chancellor in charge academic affairs.

She takes cover from Prof James Tuitoek who has been at the helm of the university for ten years.

A high court in Nakuru in September put on hold an interview exercise to appoint the new vice chancellor after one of the contestants, Prof Richard Munene, faulted changes made to the qualification requirements.
