Residents of Nyalenda area in Kisumu have been urged to adapt family planning methods in order to manage the size of their families.
Betty Omwanda, a health practitioner who speaking on Tuesday at Nyalenda Health Centre to called upon locals to embrace family planning saying it has several benefits for all family members.
Omwanda said the Kisumu County leadership should allocate funds to ensure the locals were fully informed on the benefits of family planning.
According to her, several residents were still ignorant of the importance of family and have been misled by myths and misconceptions peddled by equally ignorant peers.
"Family planning is important for the health of a mother and her children, as well as the family's economic situation. The financial consequence of having children involves the medical costs of pregnancy and birth and the high costs associated with actually bringing up children," she said.
"Since parents are responsible for providing education, shelter, clothing and food for their children, family planning has an important long-term impact on the financial situation of any family " she added.
Her counterpart Regina Ghati also echoed her sentiments while urging residents to sensitisation forums and sex education for the youth.
"Teaching the youth how their reproductive systems function, how to use contraceptives and the truth about pregnancy birth control, go a long way in improving the quality of life will of the future generation," she said.
