The government of Kenya has been urged to empower women to brighten the future of the nation.
According to Miriam Akello, a lady tailor in Kibera, if a woman is empowered, she can easily empower the society.
‘‘Women are like rose. If you value them, they will certainly be of value to you. The government should invest in women empowerment programs to help women better this society,’’ said Akello.
She advised Kibera women to try keeping themselves busy and building mutual relationships with others.
‘‘We can only change the society if we keep ourselves busy with positive issues. Gone are the days when women could keep themselves busy gossiping and boasting about their husbands and other things. As a woman, wake up every morning thinking of how you can make a difference in the society,’’ said Akello.
