The management of Enchoro primary school from Nyamira County has appealed to the ministry of education to help the institution purchase school desks for over 150 pupils’ mainly from lower classes.
According to the school head Dickson Matoke, the school has experienced an exponential growth in population in the past three years, making it difficult for the management to carter for the new students.
“We have experienced an exponential growth in terms of admission. We have around 600 pupils from around 350 in 2013,” Matoke told this writer in an interview.
“We are appealing to the ministry of education to chip in and help us purchase desks for our lower primary pupils who are using floors as desks. We have tried to get the help from county education office but the process seems to be rather slow,” he added.
According to him, the CDF committee under the supervision of the area MP James Gesami had reportedly failed to address the menace despite persistent pressure from the school’s management.
“As management, we have reportedly tried to get help from CDF but nothing so far has been done for two years now. We have applied for the funds in vein. We presented our case to the MP but he has remained mum over the issue,” Matoke added.
He urged CS Fred Matiang'i to make a visit to the institution and save pupils from contracting jiggers.
“Our pupils are learning in deplorable conditions contrary to expected standards. It’ is my wish that the CS makes a trip here to see it by himself. We need urgent help to save our children from possible jigger infestation,” he said.
