Valentine's Day is on and many believe that all one needs on a day like this is love.
But I would say that all you need is love, yes, and some common sense.
Here are some tips on how to apply common sense to it all and avoid the madness during the celebrations.
Not everybody believes in Valentine's Day. Some people prefer simplicity and so just because you were given no flowers or no surprise dinner reservation does not mean you are not loved.
Do not aspire to be like your neighbour next door. He might be the type with enough cash to buy her partner gold every Valentine's Day, but people cannot be copy-pasted. If yours prefers to take you for dinner, well and good.
Do not expect your partner to be a mind-reader; very few can do that. If you want something, ask for it.
Do not lie about anything however harmless it might appear to you. If your partner catches you in a lie, that will be the beginning of mistrust.
Friends are important but be very choosy about the advice you take from them about your Valentine's treat. Being the one in a relationship, you know best what you want. Your friends are just a support system, not consultants.
It is fair that you love yourself first. If you are the first to criticise your own looks or cooking, then expect your partner to follow suit.
Do not try to change your partner's specifications just because it's Valentine's Day. Know also that nobody is perfect, not even yourself. So enjoy your Valentine's Day.
