As most Catholic faithful could not afford to miss a single moment of the Pope, Walter Atieno, a third-year student at Maseno University used this time to cash in.

He owns a small television in his campus room, a rare thing for most students, which was turned into a big screen of sorts as fellow students flocked ATieno's room to get a glimpse of the Pope’s activities.

To get in, one had to pay Sh10 which most students did. Due the large number of students, the room could not accommodate them all thus some sat on the floor to follow the proceedings.

“I was hoping to get a chance to celebrate mass with the Pope but I unfortunately didn’t make it. I, however, don’t mind paying the Sh1o to watch it on TV,” said Cindy Akinyi.

“I have to sustain my decoder subscription. I cashed in during Obama’s visit which paid for that month’s subscription and I was looking forward to the Pope’s knowing it would attract many viewers. This will pay for this month’s subscription. I have no other source of income so this is my time,” said Atieno.

A number of students had the chance to celebrate mass conducted by the Pope in Nairobi.
