Residents of Kolen on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway have asked the National Transport and Highway Authority to erect more speed bumps in the area to avert future accidents.
Reacting to an incident in which a pupil was knocked down and injured by a boda boda operator while on his way to school on Thursday morning, the residents said the more than 2km stretch from Kolen-Kaptembwa had only a single speed bump, making the road very dangerous.
"This stretch is increasingly becoming dangerous because there is just a single speed bump to slow down speeding motorists. We appeal to NTSA to urgently erect speed bumps here before this whole situation degenerates into something worse," said James Andati.
The residents further said the traffic police should camp on the stretch to arrest errant boda bodas whom they accused of riding recklessly.
"We have so many people using this road as it leads to one of the biggest trading centres in Nakuru. However, our boda bodas who are ever competing for customers have made it difficult to even cross to either sides. We appeal to the traffic police to urgently pitch camp here," said Isabel Kemunto.
The injured pupil was rushed to Kaptembwa health centre and later discharged.
