Residents of Gesima and Magombo wards have a reason to smile after the area MP authorised renovation of a road that has been a subject of discussion for a while now.
Area residents have protested at least three times over the poor status of the road with the county government shifting blame to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority.
Tuesday, Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire who was inspecting Mosobeti-Metamaywa road ordered immediate renovation of the road through CDF kitty.
He said it was sad to see many farming activities stalling in the region since most residents depend on the road to transport their commodities to markets.
“I don’t want to engage in politics of who should or should not do the road. Having good infrastructure boosts our economy and to that end, I have ordered the CDF committee to release Sh5 million for expansion and maintenance of that road,” he said.
Bosire challenged the county government to open more feeder roads in the region to boost farming which is the main income generation activity I the county.
“We are an agricultural county and the county should take responsibility of opening more feeder roads in the region. That is the only way we can make a change to our people,” he said.
The ODM MP took the chance to also urge the Ministry of Transport to pile pressure on contractors doing Metamaywa-Mosobeti and Kemera-Moturumesi road to expedite the construction.
“The two roads under the construction by the national government have taken long. Its three years and nothing meangful has been done by contractors. I want to challenge the transport CS to chip in and pile pressure on contractors because parliament allocated money for the same,” he said.
