Residents of Esise ward in Borabu District, Nyamira County are counting loses after a heavy down pour that destroyed and carried away crops from their farms.
Several houses were also destroyed by the heavy rains.
The residents are now calling on the county government of Nyamira to help them overcome the challenge.
They said the area was flooded to an extent that children can no longer go to school as their parents fear that they might contract water borne diseases or even drown.
Some of them raised concern over falling of trees and bridges getting washed away due to the heavy rains.
“Trees have fallen and blocked roads and I have even told my wife not to let the children go to school. It rained and the rooftop was blown away and I had to take my family to my brother’s house, that is where we are now staying,” said one of the residents.
Joseph Mauti, another resident said: “before the rains started everything was okay, we had no blackouts and the rains have made us make loses because there are no customers”.
