Most of the people begging in the streets of Kisii town on grounds that they have disabilities are not from the county, according to Kennedy Kombo, the president of people living with disabilities.
The official now wants the county government to remove those people from the Kisii streets and take them back to where they came from.
“The beggars are not from our county,” said Kombo, adding that: “We urge the government to come up with ways of removing them from the streets.”
Mr Kombo, who lives with the disability of blindness, said the increasing number of beggars in the streets is worrying.
He added that the devolved system of government has offered opportunities to people living with disabilities and that there is no need to beg.
“Like any other citizen, the new constitution gives us (people living with disabilities) an equal opportunity, and there is a special support fund for people living with disabilities. So let’s know our role in the society,” Kombo said.
He alleged that some of the beggars in the streets of Kisii town and its environs are from neighbouring Tanzania.
