The Orange Democratic Movement has yet again been urged to expel rebel MPs as part of its reorganisation ahead of the 2017 polls.
On Thursday, Nyamira County Assembly Leader of Majority Raban Masira urged the disciplinary committee to assert its authority by pushing for the removal of MPs and MCAs who were colluding with government.
“I am still worried that the party has kept people who have opposed our agenda for this long. They should be expelled by the party so that we work with people who are loyal and able. They are a great undoing to the party’s reorganization before 2017. If they have any reason to oppose the party persistently, they should do it internally and not opposing us in public,” he said.
Mr Masira said expelling the rebels will allow the party to identify strong candidates from their respective regions for subsequent elections.
“As a party, we have to organise ourselves. Giving these people space and time to fight us from within is a great undoing for the party. We have to chase them away and identify people who should carry our mantle from the same region they are serving,” he added.
Masira also said expelling the rebels will act as a lesson in future to prevent party hopping of members.
“ODM should set high standards in terms of competitive politics. We have political parties act that should guide us. We have to implement it so that they (rebels) serve as a lesson. This will prevent party hoping in future,” Masira said.
Among the MPs who have openly opposed the Orange party’s top leadership include Gideon Mung’aro, Khatib Mwashetani, Zainab Chidzuga and Richard Onyonka.
