A high voltage distribution cable forced an immediate power cut from the Nakuru’s Kenya Power emergency response crew after they were summoned on Sunday afternoon by worried residents of Ngata estate, Rongai sub-county following a fallen cable from its line.
“A neighbour called to inform me about a single electric cable that was lying dangerously along the main road, that had fallen from its line located across a vast grass lashed farm for dairy cattle. This caused panic in the neighborhood considering the danger it posed, especially being a high voltage cable which is susceptible of great harm like an electric shock that can lead to instant death,” said a witness, Godfrey Oronje, who alerted the emergency crew through a phone call.
In a quick response after 30 minutes, the Kenya Power team arrived on a truck with two rolls of power cable and straightaway disconnected power supply which affected the entire Mosop ward.
Due to the gravity of the situation, the crew had to later embark to its Industrial Area-based main warehouse for more tools to service the damage that lasted for more than four hours, only for power to get reconnected at 7.30pm.
