Several families have been left homeless in Maella Naivasha after their houses were torched by unknown people.

The houses belong to the Ng’ati society chairman.

According to residents there is an on-going tussle among members of the society over the allocation of pieces of land bought by the society. “There is animosity here over land where some members have been shortchanged, those are the wars you are witnessing,” a resident, who declined to be named, said.

A section of the members are accusing leaders of Ng’ati of fraudulently allocating themselves bigger pieces of land.

Tension remained high in the area as the villagers torched the houses belonging to embattled chairman, Karanja Mwahuki, the treasurer and a former director.

Maiella Ward MCA, Mujinga Kariuki, and seven others were earlier arrested over incitement on the issue.
