A farmer in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu county is maximizing his small piece of land to reap more benefits. The farmer succeeds by practising mixed farming which includes planting various crops in the land ranging from bananas, beans, potatoes, passion fruits and also placing a bee hive at the edge of the plantations.

"I decided to do so because the bees are in need of nectar therefore planting various flowering crops and a bee hive alongside them will ensure maximum utilization of resources in the farm," Joash Ruto said. 

According to him, large tracks of land may be challenging to manage and he is therefore satisfied with his small piece of land which is of great benefit. 

Joash advises his fellow farmers who complain of small lands to utilize them and take advantages of mixed farming as well.
