Farmers across the Nakuru county have been urged to plant yellow maize as it has many advantages when compared to white maize.
Speaking in Rongai during a farmers workshop, the area extension officer Reuben Korir said that yellow maize has many advantages as compared to white maize which can't be planted without fertilisers. Korir further said that yellow maize fetches a lot of money if compared to white maize since a kilogram of yellow maize goes for Kshs. 100 while 90kg bag can fetch up to Kshs. 9, 000.
"Yellow maize has so many advantages as compared to white maize which can only do well after applying fertilisers," said Korir.
Korir added that yellow maize is also drought resistant and requires little moisture to grow; it also matures faster than white maize.
Korir has therefore urged farmers to give it a try so that they can see the benefits for themselves.
