The ban on adulterated and illicit alcoholic drinks is still in force, Gatundu North sub-county Commissioner Daniel Nyamiti has said.
Nyamiti warned that those found engaging in the sale of such banned drinks will face the full force of the law.
“The constitution is clear that nobody is licensed to kill and all those businesses that continue to sell banned wines and spirits must and will be closed down,” he said.
Nyamiti regretted that alcoholism had become a major problem in Gatundu North where the lives of young professionals who he said are the future of this nation have been destroyed.
‘The production and sale of illicit liquor has over the years become big business with some packaging the deadly brews for sale in licensed bars but this time round, the few who are still operating the business of death will face the full force of the law,’ he vowed.
He attributed the surge in crime, domestic violence, teenage pregnancies, defilement and rape in the county as results of consumption and brewing of illicit brews.
He spoke during a meeting with Nyumba Kumi officials and chiefs at the Kamwangi government’s office on Monday.
“I direct you chiefs and your assistants to ensure this vice is stamped out in your areas of jurisdiction. My office will take serious measures to curb such cases by arresting the individuals who engage in such businesses,” he added.
The Commissioner’s sentiments come amidst a growing concern that youth in the sub-county have taken to excessive drinking of the brews, which have stunted their economic productivity.
