The Nakuru County government through the fisheries department is ready to sponsor farmers willing to venture into fish farming with quality fingerlings and expertise knowledge.
According to the county government, the deteriorating levels of Tilapia in Lake Naivasha would have been dealt with if there could be a reliable fish hatchery in the county.
While officially launching Gigogo dam and a fish pond project initiated by the county government in Gigogo on Wednesday, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua called on the residents to venture into fish farming so as to help increase on the county's food security.
"Food security is critical in ensuring a healthy and productive society and such projects are key in achieving that," he said.
Mbugua called on the residents to protect the dam so as to help them in the day to day activities.
"Water is life and my government is committed to offering clean and available water in all the regions. Let us protect this dam knowing that the future generations will use it." he noted.
The governor was speaking in Gigogo, Murindat Ward in Gilgil sub county during a development projects site tour.
