Kenya Forest Association chairman Solomon Mibei has said they are determined to plant one million trees during the heavy rains period.
Speaking after leading a tree planting exercise at Kaptagat forest where 5, 000 trees were planted, Mibei said they are determined to make Kenya a 10% forest cover. "Trees are very vital since they conserve the environment,prevent mudslide,used for economic purposes,prevent soil erosion and also for asthetic values"he said He challenged Kenyans to help them acquire the 10% forest cover by atleast planting ten percent of their farm ingeniouse and exotic trees. "We encouraging farmers to plant bamboo tree in their farm as a means of prevnting mudslide especially during the Elnino rains"he said He said that they wil be distributing five hundred thousand bamboo seedlings to farmers to plant them during the rainy season. "I urge farmers to visit our offices and we will wil direct then on what they are suppossed to do to plant the bamboo trees"he said
