The gambling industry in Kenya is now expected to bring in more revenue to the government as more people are joining Sportpesa, Betway, Betin, mCheza and other betting platforms.
Focus of Kenyans is now shifted to the Sh5 billion gambling industry. Betting control and licensing board (BCLB), a department under the ministry of interior and coordination of national government is tasked with collective taxes from the gambling industry.
The betting, lotteries and gaming (amendment) bill now requires that those betting platforms should pay tax. Betting tax is 7.5% of the gross betting revenue. Gaming tax is 12% of gross gaming revenue and lottery tax is charged at 5% of lottery turnover.
The taxes are to be paid to a "collector" a commissioner general appointed under the Kenya revenue authority. The bill also introduced a prize competition tax which will be charged at 15% of the total gross turnover.
