Ford People political party plans to hold grassroots elections in a bid to bring order to the party, which is still considered to be popular in Gusii region.
According to acting chairman Mwancha Okioma, the party primaries will bring an end to months of disagreements, which recently led to the kicking out of former chairman Henry Obwocha.
The former Kitutu Masaba MP said the new officials are expected to conduct campaigns of popularising the party, ahead of next year’s general election.
“We will go to polls in April 2016 and thereafter, we expect the grassroots officials to embark on a series of campaigns to popularize the party,” Okioma said.
The party’s position at the moment is to reject calls to close shop and join the newly formed Jubilee Party, which is expected to sponsor President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid in 2017, according to the interim chairman.
Unlike in the 2002 general election, when Simeon Nyachae used the party to win the Gusii region vote, there are no plans to field a presidential candidate in next year’s polls.
“We will not field a presidential candidate but we will field candidates in other elective seats across the country,” he said.
