Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has bagged a foreign investor interested in setting up a fruit processing plant in the county.
The county boss, who has just returned from an overseas trip where he says he met several investors keen to establish factories in Machakos, said the fruit processing investor will start construction within the next few months.
“(The investor) will also establish a fruit purchasing centre to buy mangoes from our farmers. In addition, they will employ over 150 local youth,” Mutua said.
“I refuse to be the leader of suffering people. It is my duty to do whatever it takes to improve the welfare of my people's lives,” the governor said, criticizing some unnamed leaders he said ‘would rather their people remain helpless’.
Mutua also revealed that he had secured the 300 professional jobs for Machakos youth in the Middle East.
“My plan is to seek at least 2,000 jobs for my unemployed youth so that their lives are not wasted in joblessness,” he added.
