Speaking to a congregation of about 200 at the ACK St Marks Kidfarmaco in Kikuyu, Wainaina said the problem of sewage management would be a thing of the past after the construction.

“The county government of Kiambu has set aside Sh714,000 for a sewer line in Kikuyu to tackle a problem we have faced for years of waste management,” said Wainaina.

He, Wainaina, was elected mostly because of his passion towards the environment as he had fought for the rights of a better environment for the people of Kikuyu looking into the pollution of rivers, swamps and the air by institutions, companies and factories in the area.

Wainaina gave Sh5,000 towards a harambee in the town that saw the church raise over Sh3 million towards purchase of land. Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa gave an apology for not attending the fund raising but promised to give Sh300,000 at a later date.

Antony Ireri, a resident of Kikuyu, said Kikuyu needed a good drainage system and sewer line that would ensure the place was clean throughout the year.

“The roads in the town have been tarmacked and we are happy with the work. Now, having a sewage connection will also work towards a better environment for businesspeople and residents,” said Ireri.

“If the county government promotes and invests in such projects, we will have reason to support the county government and its work,” he added.
