The French Ambassador to Kenya Rémi Maréchaux on Thursday offered scholarships to students who survived the Garissa University College terror attack in April.

The event at Moi University follows a pledge made at the time of the Garissa attack by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Education to support Moi University students who were injured.

They pledged to offer the students a living allowance so that they can continue with their studies successfully.

Maréchaux added that the act of solidarity is a token of the two nations’ friendship in hard times, which he said he has felt since last Friday night, when the terrorists hit Paris.

The scholarship Sh50,000 for tuition fee and Sh100,000 for upkeep for each student. The gesture came at a time when terrorists attacked Paris, the French capital last week killing 129 people.

The cheque for their tuition fees was handed to the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance, Prof David Tuigong, who promised the students uninterrupted studies since their fees is now taken care of for the whole academic year.

Prof Tuigong on behalf of the students and the university, noted that the institution is already collaborating with the Paris administration in ventures to boost research and technology transfer.
