Jackline Muthoni, an ERC officer, has reminded Gituamba gas vendors to apply for licenses before February next year to avoid being barred from operating the business.
"I was here in the start of December and the vendors agreed to apply for licenses. I am not happy to announce that many have not applied. We gave them until the start of January then we commence acting in February 2016," she said.
Speaking from Gituamba Township on Monday, Muthoni observed an increase of gas vendor’s contrast to the business peak some months ago.
She revealed that Energy Regulatory Commission was dedicated to providing better mechanisms of operating the business without hitches.
The officer warned vendors who fill part of the cylinders with vapour leaving little space filled with gas. She sounded a warning to them that the commission is on the lookout and if complaints are forwarded to them by consumers, vendors found culpable will be arrested and their licenses revoked.
"There are some rogue vendors who indirectly steal from their customers by filing part of gas cylinders with vapour making money illegally on the vapour space. The commission has heard some of the complaints and we are now ready to act. Anyone found guilty of selling vapour filled cylinders will be arrested and their licenses revoked," she warned.
Muthoni advised area residents who use gas for cooking to only fill their cylinders from places they cannot be lied to. She further advised Gituamba residents to consider using gas for cooking citing that its cheap and is environmental friendly.
