Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo has supported a proposal by a Jubilee counterpart to have the 47 counties reduced to 14.
Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki said that the reduction would help cut down the costs of running the counties.
Gathogo said that the current 350 constituencies should also be reduced to ease the burden of salaries which he said was currently eating into development funds required to spur the economy.
She said that the government had budgeted for Sh2 trillion but was only able to raise Sh1.2 trillion from local taxes adding that the budget deficit of Sh800 million was expected to be raised from external borrowing.
Gathogo added that the counties were full of corruption saying that delivering services was compromised as the officers were only interested in how to make money cheaply.
She was speaking at Ruiru Township Primary School on Saturday where she noted that drastic measures should be instituted to ensure that money for development was available.
Gathogo added that the President should dissolve the current cabinet and appoint new faces.
The MP said that mwananchi should rethink about the constitution saying that referendum process should take place immediately.She added that the constitution required some changes for citizens to benefit from the government.
