Ruiru MP Esther Gathongo has asked local chiefs and the police to educate residents on Nyumba Kumi security initiative.
Speaking to members of the public at Kahawa on Friday, the MP said security will be improved if members of the public are sensitised on the Nyumba Kumi and other security measures being taken by the government.
Ms Gathongo said there have been instances of crime reported in the constituency that could have been thwarted if residents had embraced Nyumba Kumi.
“Members of the public should be educated more on the Nyumba Kumi and other security measures in order to help curb criminal activities,” said Gathongo.
The Ruiru lawmaker noted that the rate of Nyumba Kumi adoption is still low in some parts of Ruiru.
She said that local administrators have a crucial role of informing and sensitising locals on government security mechanisms.
The MP also asked the police to establish good working relationship with the members of the public.
She said it is the only sure way of effectively fighting crime in the constituency.
Ms Gathongo pledged to support security measures being introduced by the government.
On the same note, Ms Gathongo wants local chiefs to continue the crackdown on illicit brews.
She observed that some people could have resulted to making and selling of the illicit brews.
“Local chiefs and administrators should not get tired of fighting illicit brews in this area, we have to make sure that Ruiru is free of illicit brews and second generation alcoholic drinks,” she reiterated.
