In an effort to reduce crimes in Gatundu North, the national government has completed construction of 19 street lights located in Kamwangi town, Gakoe, Munyaka and Kanyoni respectively.
The project that costed the national government Kshs. 3.5 million will be officially launched on Friday by Gatundu North Member of parliament Francis Kigo.
Speaking from his office in Kamwangi on Wednesday, the sub county finances administration officer Veronicah Njeri said that the area CDF took the initiative of establishing the lights to help the sub county fight crimes that has caused over five innocent deaths in the year 2015.
"A place like Kamwangi which has been enjoying relative peace has in the recent past been experiencing a rise in crime characterised by murders and burglary. Most of the criminals have been conducting their criminal activities by taking advantage of the darkness," said Njeri.
"The national government is also planning to put CCTV cameras in the central business district of Kamwangi to help the police monitor the town; we have to use all possible means at our disposal to avert crime in this area," she said.
Njeri added that the CDF management in the sub county had been in talks with the chairman of the Nyumba Kumi initiative Dennis Muguthi to see how best the diverse composition of the city would be used to integrate the initiative.
