Gatundu North residents have been assured that security in their area will be beefed up in the year 2016.
Area sub-county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti noted that 2016 will be a year of difference in the sector of security.
Speaking while welcoming the newly posted youth and sports officers in the sub-county on Friday, the commissioner highlighted that 2015 had all nature of challenges citing illicit brew as the major one.
"I am honoured to have been given the chance to welcome our new sports and youth officers for Gatundu North. Without going much ado, I wish to say that 2015 was an year of all manner of challenges majorly on handling the business of death, robbery cases among other social ills. We are however thankful to God for this year which we pledge to work tirelessly to ensure security matters are effectively handled for the safety of our people," he said.
Nyamiti urged the two appointed officers to efficiently deliver to the youths citing that youths need the county services most in the area.
He urged the people to cooperate with the police through mutual exchange of information in order to counter criminal elements.
"I also call upon worshippers to be vigilant and ensure that their prayer premises are thoroughly inspected for foreign objects before they begin their sessions besides conducting scrutiny of individuals flowing into the churches throughout the year to avert insecurity in areas of worship," he urged.
The police boss warned youths who smoke publicly citing that he will soon engage local legislators to move a motion in the county parliament against public smoking to reduce cigarette-related diseases not only to smokers but also to those around them.
The sub-county received two new officers; Elizabeth Muthoni, the sports officer and Geraldine Waithera Muiruri who will serve as the youth officer.
